Academic Interests

I’m widely interested in the evolution of acoustic and visual signals in birds. For my PhD dissertation I studied the evolution of song and plumage coloration in a group of passerines, the ‘blue’ cardinalids. Currently, I’m interested in understanding the evolution of vocal repertoires in birds of the Troglodytidae family, and I’m also focusing on one of the species of the family, the Sedge Wren, to investigate the role of intra-sexual selection on the evolution of the repertoire of this species.

My years at the museum (where I did my PhD) taught me the importance of biological collections, and I am still fascinated by the questions that can (or could!) be answered using doing collection-based research. But I also enjoy going to the field very much, so I try to integrate both approaches to study different aspects of birds’ behavior, evolution and also systematics. In particular, I’m interested in combining both phenotypic and genetic data for species delimitation.
